My name is Paporn. My deep connection with dogs and other animals goes back to our time we spent in China. Living in Beijing we went out to a farm outside the city and we met our Nicky there. She was left over and there was no one who wanted her. The farmer was glad that we took her and we lived together ever since. I took care of Nicky a lot and even when we moved back to Thailand she followed us.

Once I was back in Thailand there was so much misery on the streets and I started to open my eyes. I was ashamed to see how the animals have to live here in my country. One night when I left the office very late there was a dog on the street, struggling for her life because she was hit and left alone there. Obviously she was paralyzed and had blood all over her body but still she tried to move herself off the street. I stopped my car with the emergency lights on and picked her up. We drove to a veterinarian who opens 24 hours where she was treated and taken care of. Later I brought her to a home for the handicapped dogs for which I still make regular donations.

We later moved out of our apartment and lived and worked in a house with garden. Immediately I took in more dogs from the street and this is how the Khlongdogs idea actually started. Today 30 animals live in our house and we care for them every day. But I never forgot the other animals on the street. Because of this I regularly drive along the neighborhood and I always have food and water in my car. Whenever I see a dog or cat in need I must at least try to help. Some dogs I took for basic medical care, some I helped to spay and others I helped with cancer treatment.

Some of the dogs that I helped over the years were poisoned, killed by a car or even beaten to death. There are not much places were I can bring a sick dog or cat. But I met Pa Tim about 5 years ago and she takes care of over 100 dogs. Sometimes I can bring some animals to her. But otherwise we animal lovers do not receive much recognition here in Thailand. It appears to be alright to dump a dog or even kill an animal but people who rescue or keep street dogs often run into trouble and have to fear problems with the authorities or their neighbors.

Since I started to actively take care of the street dogs and cats I have cried a lot. Sometimes I have to fight the feeling to give up and I wonder why I can not be so indifferent like other people who do not care at all about the dog who just is about to die beside their own car. But I cannot stop doing what I started and I promised to take care of them as long as I possibly can. No matter how much trouble or pain I will face there will always be a chance to save and rescue one more and if possible there will always be a place for some in our house. They are all so beautiful and precious beings and it is a sin not to care, not to look and to turn away. After all they are only on the streets because someone dumped them there.
