The temple project actually did not start in a temple but under a bridge at Khlong Songtonnun in the suburbs of Bangkok. It was already in the year 2003 when we drove under the bridge at that khlong and recognized an old lady in the midst of what must have been over 100 dogs. There she stood in front of a very large iron bowl cooking rice surrounded by street dogs of all shapes and sizes. We stopped and approached her just to ask what the gathering was all about. Her name is Pa Tim and she takes care of street dogs. She told us many stories and that she actually does not have any income since she only cares for the dogs. The water supply was also cut because she could not pay the bills. Her home was a little makeshift house located under the bridge on one side of the khlong.

This was when the temple project started. We paid for the bills and asked the administration to turn on the water again. Since that time we supported Pa Tim and her dogs with rice, dog food, medicine and money. In the year 2006 the city administration asked her to leave the place since she and the street dogs were reason for complaints. There was first an effort to move her and the dogs to another place but finally in July 2006 they moved to a small temple in the vicinity of Ayutthaya.

The abbot of the temple is an outspoken animal lover and now gives shelter to about 200 street dogs and 50 street cats. Since that time we supported the temple dogs and cats with food, treatment against tick and flee, various vaccinations and over 50 dogs were spayed during that period. There was help from volunteers and veterinarians, the Thai AGA and some sponsorship by DTAC and private persons. The abbot also tries to free money to buy food and pay for medical expenses if possible. However, much more help now is needed to support the animals and to provide the temple with the necessary help to continue this important work.

There is an ongoing need for:

Dog & Cat Food
Annual Vaccinations
Regular & Emergency Medical Treatment
Spaying of Dogs & Cats
Improvement of Facilities
Financial Support for the Pa Tim and other helpers

The project does not yet have a regular sponsorship and lives from the help of Khlongdogs and other volunteers, private people and occasional support from corporate organizations. Please consider to help the animals in the temple. We really need your support.
