The life of a street animal is perilous and full of threats. There are the insufficient general living conditions and constant malnutrition, infectious diseases and of course various accidents caused by deliberate attacks or encounters with cars and motorbikes. All these circumstances often lead to serious problems for the animal since it is usually left alone with its sickness or the injuries suffered from an accident. Just to make this more transparent and clear: we are not talking about the flu but about serious things such as cancer, skin disease, broken limbs or other kinds of open wounds and of course serious infections which often lead to certain death. Being left alone with such conditions means serious suffering for the animal.

Unfortunately many people do not care about an animal involved in a road accident and just drive away without providing the animal any form of first aid or help. It appears to be a form of basic human responsibility to care for animals who obviously suffer a great deal especially when help is easily available. Please do not turn away from animal suffering but try to help as much as you can.

As with all injured and sick it is necessary to obtain professional help since often our attempts to rescue and help the animal can easily lead to the exact opposite result. We have put together some addresses of shelters and vets you can contact but there are many animal clinics around Bangkok and the local people can surely tell you how to get there.

Depending on the general condition of the animal it might be advisable to contact a animal hospital for intensive care or emergency surgery. In many other cases it will be sufficient to place the animal in a nearby animal shelter which are also available in many parts of the city. The main task is to get the animal off the street and to place it in a safe environment with the ability to provide medical attention as well as general care.

Animal shelters usually help animals for free and do not charge a fixed fee for treatments or care. However, they depend on donations and it will be more than fair if you give them a reasonable amount of money to cover the costs of the treatment. Animal shelters do not make profits but try to cover the expenses of their social service. Unfortunately almost all of them are private organizations and as such you are again encouraged to help with a financial contribution.
